Back from Camden, New Jersey last night. Oh what a truly magical way to kick off my school visits. I knew I’d love doing them, I just didn’t realize how much.
I met some of the most amazing young people I’ve ever known (and that’s saying a lot, because I happen to know a lot of amazing young people). I loved their eager faces, their laughter, their powerful questions, and the profound silence in the room when I read.
We touched on everything, from anti-Semitism and oppression, to cliches, aliens, God, blue cheese and feminism. We stood on desks, in a true Dead Poets Society moment. And yes, Robin Williams was right. Touching the ceiling can really change your perspective.
It was a blast and an honor. And now I am hungry for more!
