Hey, friends! How could I have almost let spring go by without an update?? And now it’s a veritable whirlwind of wondrous reality shifts! Quantum leaps!! All the exclamation marks!!!
Okay, out with it:
- My Washington State chapter is drawing to a close. Due to state budget cuts and financial etcetera’s, I was laid off from my position effective at the end of the school year. Which is next Friday. Waaaah!
- If you haven’t figured it out yet, I am INSANELY excited. Washington State is gorgeous, nature-wise. I will now, always & forever need mountains in my life. But being here made me realize how crucial human connection is to me, as well. I’m a fire sign, and fire loves to share. It’s been a tough time, as far as that goes. Especially at my job, especially with colleagues. I’ve learned so much being here. About education. About neurodivergent learners. About personal growth, how it works — not just for me but for humans, in general. I’ve learned about what gets in the way of our dreams, and how hard and how easy it can be to make changes. And I’ve learned about myself. What was holding me back. What I’m actually capable of. Whew. The thing is, I have found myself in a social environment that felt like the trenches, a place that brought out all my buried social childhood and teen traumas up to the surface, to be dealt with. Gritted teeth, tears, emotional turmoil as I shed and shed and shed my skin, releasing old beliefs and behavior patterns. All of this has and will continue to make all my relationships going forward so much more secure and genuine. Besides all the learning, the things I’ve picked up in Washington include: the habit of wearing winter hats indoors, a certain bluntness, a certain don’t fuck-with-me edge and … a certain recreational activity that is legal here, but will still be illegal in the state where I’m going to next… Hehehe. Don’t worry. I only dabble!
- The plan for someday became a right now: my beloved and I are packing boxes for Pennsylvania. Scranton, PA, to be exact, a surprisingly diverse little city in Northeastern Pennsylvania, just north of the Poconos. Surrounded by peaceful hills. It’s got a cute downtown, a University, and an improv club. (I should probably watch The Office). What we thought would take about another year is happening on the morning after my last day of school. Six days from now.
There’s a lot more. But I wanted to focus more on endings in this post. Maybe we’ll talk about beginnings next time 😉
See you all in the Eastern Time Zone!
